Case management is the core service provided by CIS. The young people who are most likely to drop out of school are experiencing multiple obstacles to their success. Poverty, low self-esteem, low expectations, gang involvement, drugs, family conflict, abuse, neglect, teen pregnancy, behavior problems, health problems and others all work together to limit success in school. CIS social workers work with individual students to develop trusting relationships and to coordinate multiple services from multiple providers...over 194,000 service hours last year. This systematic approach, built on a consistent relationship with a caring adult....at school.... is the core service which changes young lives.
It's never just one issue or one incident and there is never an “easy fix”.
Keeping kids in school takes time, resources and involvement.
That's where Communities In Schools of Greater Tarrant County, Inc. comes in.
Through campus-based programs and special projects, Communities In Schools creates a network of volunteers, social services, businesses, and community resources that work together to break down barriers and help students succeed. With this, “whatever it takes” approach, over 98% of the students referred to Communities In Schools during the last 14 years… stayed in school.
