Beating the Odds

One particular student always brings a smile to the face of the CIS worker of Everman High School. CIS began helping this student sophomore year when she on the verge of failing due to constantly missing class. The past two years were “a true pleasure” working with this young woman who has endured serious health and emotional issues.

Due to an illness, she had to have a surgery requiring her to miss school for 6-8 weeks. She also lost two brothers and her sister within a year and often lived with her aunt in Dallas due to problems at home. The commute back and forth to school negatively impacted her attendance until she began making an active effort to focus on school.

To see this young lady who has endured so much heartache and pain still consistently have a smile on her face was inspiring. She is definitely beating the odds and well on her way to a brighter future.
