After School Programs

Youth crime and victimization peak on weekdays between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 P.M. These are the hours when unsupervised youth are most likely to become involved with gangs, alcohol, drugs, sex, crime, and victimization. These are also the hours during which kids can be connected with our area's best and most successful prevention and intervention programs in the safety of their own schools.

Proven Results for Youth And The Community

Studies show that children and youth who attend high-quality after school programs have:

  • Better grades and conduct in school and greater academic and enrichment opportunities;
  • Better peer relations and emotional adjustment and
  • Lower incidences of drug-use, violence and pregnancy.

After School Programs reduce juvenile crime and victimization and help develop a stronger future workforce - offering students new learning opportunities. A study showed that housing projects without after school programs had 50 percent more vandalism and had 30 percent more drug activity than those with after school programs.
